Exit - Go Hard or Go Home - Album Review

By : Wesley Williams

Having been shortchanged by the Namibian annual music awards 2013 judges this year, Exit has come back hard, and this time around he is flaunting more suppleness and mellowness in his latest offering dubbed’ Go hard or go home’.

This 18-track project unlocks with a question, on this track ’what’s your agenda?’ If the veracity were to be made gemstone- clear, this young man has gone from strength to vigor since jumping off the Exit and Mushe train and opting for the solo highway. Judging by the affluence of most tracks, which are characterized by deep conscious well-placed lyrics, Exit is laying a point for his critics and fans that he is here to bolster his place in the music fraternity, and for a long time to come, to be remembered amongst the greatest kwaito acts in Namibia.
Having listened to this18 track album ‘Windhoek city’ I must admit is on another level, with sally, Sunny Boy showing their music dexterity, though still parading the kwaito element in them, It would be fair-minded to say it is the elevation of local kwaito genre while blended with some great production skills from the likes of the turntable king, K-Boz and M-Jay.

Delivery on this project is well placed, most people will agree with me that collaborating with Zambia Shyman Shayzo on ‘from Zambia to Namibia was not an erroneous judgment for Exit to exercise his international charm. On board this project is also a tremendous hoard of both talent and experience, including ML, Qondja, M-Jay, Pablo, Dingalo, Neslouw and other kwaito guys on the block.
A definite 2013-party/shebeen track for me would be ''Windhoek city'', with its well-laced party tempo and groove vibe. I would say Exit has chosen to go hard on this one, and sent his critics home. If I were an economist I would say ‘holding everything constant, and upholding the progressive music standards, this should be his year.

In my opinion Exit's album lacks an element of suprice, plus the lyrics are too much whining about being hated on and not being recognised and shit, truth is wi'm tired of hearing that. I want music that's insparational and thought-provoking.

Let things happen when the right timehas approached. I dont believe exit can be compared to a lot others. He is young and still very much ambitous. Awards in Namibia has no real value, yes it helps a lot with the Artists career but i believe Exit should be vying for the more elite awards, For now let the dude enjoy his time cause i believe he also gets advise as to what is next and what is right and wrong, despite the peoples own perceptions, next year i personally hope that next year just gets better for everyone in the industry...
