The Nama Awards - Repetition of Sanlam Saga?

The event manifested into a glamorous night of prestige and elegance which saw a lot of new faces grasping the grand opportunity to finally grace the red carpet gateway for their creative artworks. 

The Night was split into two occasions, the much expected proceedings at the Play House Theatre,followed by a surprise live screening at a secondary venue right outside the Windhoek Show grounds, which has been causing a stir of speculation in the Local Media. From being assumed to be an Earthquake monitoring center to a UFO space ship landing site.It was indeed to unveil Namibia's Undervalued Resources: Namibia's talented Artists Dubbed 'Diamonds in the Rough'.. A total of 70 artists were Nominated for the 20 categories.

The evening was braced by 'Adora',as she performed one of her new songs.'Cyberspace' the up and coming Hip Hop & R&B duo performed 'Thats why' a new track from their upcoming studio works.Video of the song will premiere on the Blog very soon. however,contoversy seem to be a hard nut to crack when it comes to Namibian Music.

This morning though,we saw facebook posts and updates streaming in at a staggering rate,raging dissatisfaction from fans,Artists and various music Pundits.With a questionable spotlight on the Nominations for for the Best HIp Hop category.The category consists of Jericho,Ludik,Lize Ehlers & Run NAMS. Ludik is deemed as a Rock Artist and a guru to the face of entertainmnet,but was also nominated for best new comer.  

'How can Stefan Ludik be a new comer?,If he has two Albums under his belt?,and why is the Dogg not nominated for best kwaito?,when he is a Kwaito Artist?' This were words from Verdict Manager, Irene Jacobz.

KK,who was seen as to have been hardworking and making a significant contribution to the Hip Hop Genre was not nominated but instead Lize Ehlers went on the list,whose album was launched about three months ago,and that the Album was more of soul than Hip Hop.Lize Ehlers was also nominated for Best Female Artsist of the year,living out the ever soulful and talented Tequila,who has the most features in local music and elsewhere outside the country. 

Some categories possess artists that are yet to be identified in the Music Indusrty as their works have not been promoted enough,but were given birth only in the Nomination lists.

Lize Elhers has by far one Album under her belt,if not mistaken 'Fairy circle'.We dont see any reason why Lize gets to be nominated when her album was not launched between December 2009 to December 2010 as per requirements from MTC.

Speculations from the ever blatantly loyal Mshasho fans led to a perceived possible strike/protest against the entire NAMA,voicing allegations of favoritism (as usual) and conflict of interest. One fan on The Dogg's Fan Page wrote; 

'' MVA FUND IS DA SPONSORE OF BEST KWAITO CATEGORY EN GAZZA IS DA AMBASSANDR OF MVA FUND DATS Y THY DDNT NOMINATED MR DOGG,THY DNT WANT HM(DOGG) 2 WALK AWAY WIT DA PRICE,INSTEAD THY Opted 2 NOMINAT THE WEAK1 LYK MEKOX,FISH MAN ETC..CZ THY KNW VRY WELL THY Wll NT WIN,SIMPLY AS SUCH'' 

With Conrad Angula’s name surfacing as one of the people who seem to not be a favorite on the PANEL of judges,the sentiments are that, Mshasho’s  The Dogg was treated unfairly pointing to his exclusion from the Best KWAITO category. Although he is flaunting 3 nominations under his belt (Best song of the year, Best Video, and Male Artist of the year) his fans feel he deserved more.

The Nama Music awards is a joint venture between NBC and MTC,which is aimed at honouring Local Artists who are making a signifacnt contribution to the local Music Industry annually.It will give away  humoungous prices including Fifty thousand dollars worth of cash Prices to the Artist of the year and many more.In the previous years,the Competition was an open platform for fans around the country to vote for their favourite Artists.This year though it is not the same.A panel of Foreign and local Judges were selected to make good and fair judgements
