Lize Ehlers – From Stage Acting to Masterpiece Album.....
By Nunu Namises |
Let me maybe say…different, which I like being. So
we took a step (or two) into the humble home of Mrs. Lize Ehlers. You could tell by her energy that she really means
business.
Talking about where she comes from Lize says
growing up in a place like Mariental; you have to challenge your imagination. “I
grew up in Mariental. It was a great place to grow up in, but because there
wasn't much to do you had no choice but to get lost in your imagination” The
energetic Lize States.
Her album – ‘Fairy Circle Love’, is her First
musical releases, and was launched at the sparking Nice Restaurant in
Windhoek, a couple of weeks ago.Buy Lize's album by visiting the I Tunes store here
What is
special about the album is that it was recorded entirely in Lize’s own home. Now that is
proper. The amazing spirit that one possesses, when in their own comfort zones
is spectacular. This album relates to a lot of women who go through the same
day to day energies emerging from a hardworking woman like her.
The production of the album is the work of young producer
Linzi Arense, who Lize is not
afraid to boast about!
Here is a One on One interview with Lize at her
House, here in Windhoek: ENJOY
Nunu: What drives you?
Nunu: What drives you?
Lize: Life. It’s my muse and stage is my home. I am very blessed. I have
a wonderful husband who is an art enthusiast. He is my third eye and all of us
need that third eye to observe us.
Nunu: When did the performing start?
Lize: Well, as a child I was very competitive and this propelled me.
Stage calms me down and it’s my home. I still get nervous though and that makes
me appreciate those that come to watch me even more.
Nunu:
Why music?
Lize: I was a singer before I was an actor. It all started with my mom
who is also a singer. She made me do OMO ads at three years old. Music makes sense.
It makes things happen. It frees me. It was also one of the things that
connected me to my son while I was excepting. I sang to him all the time.
Nunu: So you launched recently. This was your first. How was it for you?
Lize: One word – Beautiful! For a Namibian crowd it was quite a big turn
out. I was pleasantly surprised by the response and the support. I felt loved.
Nunu:
How would you describe your kind of music?
in this Video Lize Performs at her recent CD Launch Held at Nice
Lize: It’s independent. More of a mixed genre. Fused jazz, lounge, reggae and ballads. It’s a fusion Nunu. People might say “Nah”, but I sing about what I know and I sing not to sell, but to do music.
Nunu:
The jazzy more contemporary kind of music is always more
mature and deep. Do you think Namibians take it seriously (appreciate it)?
Lize:
Absolutely. People need to wake up. I won't do kwaito for
example. I won’t. I’m not saying its bad music. I’m just saying we should
celebrate this art. Not every one wants to do controversy. I say “stick to what
you are”.
Nunu:
Are you aiming a specific audience?
Lize:
Mostly art enthusiasts, non-intellectuals, intellectuals,
people who are into poetry. My music is poetry. I don't expect everybody to say
“I love this” after listening to my music. But I think if one does not like
something you should challenge it.
Nunu:
From here?
Lize: I
am learning a lot. I will continue to tell more stories. I'm looking into an
effects show like an artistic scientific experiment, my own blog. Many more
shows and a new album before the year ends.
