Spotlight on Mekox

Mekox,real name Mekondjo Kanana is an aspiring Kwaito artist that has been in the industry for quit sometime now.Born in swakopmund,raised in South Africa he now resides in Windhoek.
"As an artist it is difficult to make it in this somewhat biased industry if you don't live in Windhoek.Almost every radio station in Namibia is based in Windhoek. Television stations and other promotional households are only found here, that's why I chose to move."

The Dananasho hit maker has been on and off the music radar after releasing a few tracks that went on to be favorable dance tunes in Jukeboxes and car systems around the country. His first music video Dananasho received massive airplay on local television sets and radio thus making him a house hold name. Omlilo records is the brain child of Mekox and has been in existence for the last two or three years. Some would say he copied the Name from the House hit Umlilo by DJ Sox, a South African based House DJ/Artist."That is not true, the name was there even before those guys thought of ever doing a song like that", the artist defensively states.
Besides music, the down to earth Mekox loves entertaining people and just having a good laugh. His past time passions include cars and he is also a die hard fan of soccer giants Arsenal and Barcelona. must admit I just have a thing for sound and speed". He says.

On the album (LP) entitled Point of No Return which is also his first ever studio project, Mekox worked with two producers, Kapro for Blue Chilli's Entertainment and the Late Eclipse respectively. Eclipse the only Namibian producer to have touched many Hip Hop Artists and Hip-hop fans around the country, passed away tragically in what was described as a rather awkwardly strange accident, along with Roger Itembu another prominent R&B artist, who was also protege to Eclipse. The pair died on the spot when the car they were travelling in overturned, after travelling from a hectic GMP Performance schedule in Rundu,where they where promoting Gazza's Channel O Nomination as Best Kwaito, in the 2009 Channel O Awards. The twenty track album is expected to hit the markets by end September and will be available for sale at Universal Sounds for a mere 100 Bucks. The album has a combination of flavors to it, from Kwaito tunes to Hip-hop, and features prominent music hit makers, Mappz, Sally, Jewls, Pontie and many more. He also introduces a new member to the Omlilo camp Waka, who also features on a new single Keep up that is sure to be the new version of Dananasho.

Asked about CD launches and future plans, Mekox and the Omlilo camp are planning on having a series of CD launches, one hopefully in his home town of Swakopmund, the North (Oshakati or Ongwedhiva) and another scheduled for Windhoek, by end October this year. The venues will be announced at a later stage.
